while I think its retarded that they can totally rip off Repo! with repo men. I will say that i'll probably see repo men, but I will never watch Repo! I dont like most of the people in it, and the idea of a musical is not my cup of tea. In an action movie however, the main plot idea works better for me.

At least you're not being a douche about it.  I'll see Repo Men too but I won't pay to see it.  I'm an avid fan of Repo! from the start before it was even out in the 11 theatres it reached.  Repo! isn't a movie for everyone, which is fine.  No movie released is for everyone.  For me I think my background with musical theatre helps my liking for it.  Not to mention my many encounters with cast and crew from the film.  They're so supportive and really appreciate their fans.  I doubt I'll ever see Jude Law at a showing for Repo Men and do a Q and A with fans.  I mean Hell, fucking Anthony Stewart Head/Giles showed up as a complete surprise guest to an LA performance.  Not many people just show up to a midnight showing and stay until all fans have had a chance.  The fans of Repo! funny enough have become some sort of community which many films don't have.  I think for some, that's the true draw of liking Repo! so much.  All the support behind it.

So far, most reviews for Repo Men from critics are horrible (if we're counting reviews like some people swear by) saying it's more of the idea of a gore fest then really much anything else (also questioning wtf Forest Whitaker was thinking when he signed on to do it).  So yeah, I will see it.  In ways to compare but also for some form of entertainment.  But my fandom will still be true to Repo!

Edit: Also when you're talking about not liking most of the people in it.  I kinda guess Paris Hilton is one?  Most people bash that movie before they read the title of the film just because of her (all her scenes literally add to like 10 minutes).  Shockingly, she did a great job making fun of herself as the slutty heiress to a company.  Also, someone who isn't a fan of hers really, I did gain some respect for her that she did that as well as show up to one of the showings I went to.  It's weird but she's been moreso embraced by the 'freak' community than what would be called mainstream.  It's weird.  When I was going home from that same showing the next morning the person I saw it with and I even discussed how we're not fans but that kinda dwindled down the high distaste for her.

I guess you didn't pick up on me saying I don't hate MUSICALS, I just don't like this one because I feel the overall concept of the movie would've been so good for an actual movie that they ruined it by making it into a musical.

Okay so earlier in the thread you said either Repo Men would suck and you'd be proven wrong or it would rule and we'd eat our words.  So far reviewers have said it HAS in fact sucked and instead of at least wondering if you were wrong, you automatically insult Repo! again.  So that means what you said before isn't true and you just hate Repo! to hate it?

I haven't seen the movie yet, but if you're going to go by the reviews alone both of these movies are fucking terrible and didn't deserve to be made.

That being said, yes both movies have bad ratings based on reviewers (Repo! at 34% and Repo Men at 20%, though to be fair a lot of reviewers didn't know what Repo! was supposed to be).

The point was just that people are already saying how much it's a rip off of not only Repo!, but also a bunch of other movies, and how the story doesn't make sense when it's not a funny rock opera.  I'll post my actual thoughts when I see it next week.

Not that it really matters one way or the other since if I like it I look like a dumbass and if I don't like it I look like a dumbass.

At least it can't possibly be any worse than most of the movies I've seen in theatres recently.

Wtf really?  They get mad but then have no actual clue what's going on?  Brilliant.  They're probably like how some of the people who make the 'controversial' ordeal sound worse. I heard/read about the twist. I'd have to see it to see if I like it or not. I heard it's hit or miss with people.  Some really like it and some find it a huge cop out to just speed up the ending.  Some people have said it's a little off the book.  I don't know how much of that there is true.  That's cool that you liked it though.  I just heard its a gore fest so guys like it because of that mainly.  Is it really as gory?

Yeah I read a couple reviews and about 2 people I know saw it.  One said he felt they just threw in the gore as a filler to keep certain audience (aka males) more interested since there was a lacking of story.  Another friend liked it but said somewhat similar saying it could have done without some of the gore as it seemed pointless.
